It's clear that when it comes to fashion, Britney Spears isn't afraid of doing things her own way.

And she didn't disappoint yesterday after stepping out in Los Angeles with her assistant and bodyguard.

The singer went to see a movie after getting her nails done at a local salon.

And while her casual outfit of jeans and a black jacket was normal enough, she also opted to complete the look with a giant pink knitted headband.

Wearing her blonde hair in a messy ponytail, the 29-year-old looked as if she was trying to cover up her locks, which have not been in the best condition since she had her extensions taken out.

But it looks as if she will soon have extensions put in again - and this time they will be longer than ever.

Britney has scheduled an appointment to get waist-long hair extensions from stylist Kim Vo at the Montage Beverly Hills, a source tells Us Magazine.

And she is hoping Vo will help her fix her damaged hair.

'[Vo] wasn't responsible for her hair over the last few years but is trying to fix it now!' the source says.

Knowing Britney's constant changes of opinion on her hair though, it's not likely to stay one way for long.

'He mentioned how often she changes her mind about it. This week she wants it to her butt, and... two weeks later they'll probably cut it again,' says the source.

The pop princess is currently dating 38-year-old talent agent Jason Trawick, who she has had an on-again off-again relationship for over 18 months.

Rumours have been swirling for some time about whether the two are planning to tie the knot in the near future.

But whether she gets married or not, it's clear her career is going from strength to strength.

The Baby One More Time singer tweeted that she plans to launch her new album this year and is looking forward to the release.

'I'm almost done with my new album and it will be coming out this March,' she tweeted last month. 'I AM IN L-O-V-E WITH IT!'
