Jackie No: Katie Holmes' new mini-series The Kennedys is cancelled for 'historical inaccuracy'

On hold: Katie Holmes' miniseries The Kennedys has been cancelled for historical inaccuracy

Katie Holmes' mini-series The Kennedys will not air on the History Channel as planned, after issues were raised about the accuracy of the eight-part programme.

The actress plays John F. Kennedy's wife Jacqueline Kennedy in the multi-million dollar production, which is the most expensive programme the network has ever commissioned.

But after viewing the final product, History Channel executives determined the portrayal of the Kennedys to be inaccurate and no therefore no longer suitable for them.

'Upon completion of the production of The Kennedys, History has decided not to air the eight-part miniseries on the network,' a network rep told The Hollywood Reporter.

'While the film is produced and acted with the highest quality, after viewing the final product in its totality, we have concluded this dramatic interpretation is not a fit for the History brand.

'We recognise historical fiction is an important medium for storytelling and commend all the hard work and passion that has gone into the making of the series, but ultimately deem this as the right programming decision for our network.'

The script allegedly caused controversy with the political left in the U.S. and some Kennedy historians.

Before filming even began on the series, a front-page New York Times story last February included a sharp attack from former John F. Kennedy adviser Theodore Sorenson, who called an early version of the script 'vindictive' and 'malicious.'

The part of John F. Kennedy is played by Greg Kinnear.

The Kennedy's will still air in Canada on March 6 as well as internationally.

Controversy: Despite it being a multi-million dollar production, critics say the show is inaccurate

Meanwhile Holmes, 32, has been spending time on the set of husband Tom Cruise's film Mission Impossible 4 in Vancouver with their daughter Suri, four.

She and Suri went to visit Cruise on set yesterday as he shot a night scene for Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol.

And Suri was the centre of attention as she sat in a director’s chair watching Tom act out an action scene.

The family shared hugs and kisses in-between takes with Tom and Katie all smiles as they appeared to share a joke together.
